Storybook Favorites

After looking through the previous classes' story projects, I have chosen three of my favorites.

Betraying Confidence
This story was randomly generated when I loaded the page, however, the title caught my interest. Immediately, I was captivated by the way the introduction was written. It was mysterious and intriguing; I wanted to know more.  The photo piqued my interest, it was also chosen well. It was dark and felt haunting, echoing the theme in the story. The original story it was based on wasn't clear to me at first but that just made me want to keep reading to find out. I don't think Bluebeard is a very popular choice but it was really well done. Beyond the story itself, the layout and design of the page were also well done. I liked the colors chosen and the way the page navigated. Of the stories I viewed, the physical design of this one was my favorite. I would want my project to look similar.

The Supporting Roles
I chose this story because the title stood out to me. I like learning more about the secondary characters in stories. Sometimes, if you only focus on the main characters, you can overlook the vivid and essential stories that other characters have to tell. I knew some of the women by name and I knew which stories they were from but I did not know much about them. The introduction captured my attention and the titles of the different sections kept me reading since I recognized the names.

The Heroic Tyrant-King
I chose this story because I have always liked the tale of Gilgamesh, ever since I first read a translation of it in high school. This retelling was a bit different as it started off in the perspective of Enkidu. I thought the title was chosen well and the introduction gave a good overview of the epic. I also liked the images which felt like they were from the original story as well. The design and layout were well done, it was easy to go from one section to the next.

Introduction to a future Accountant (sounds fun right?)

My name is Elyse, and I am working toward a double major, Accounting and Finance. Last summer, I went with the business college to Italy to study abroad. While I was there, I took Cost Accounting, which has been my favorite class so far. It may sound boring at first, however, we partnered with a winery to create an extensive financial report, detailing the specifics of how their business has been doing and offering suggestions on how to improve. In a real-world context, Cost Accounting becomes highly enjoyable to someone who likes working with numbers and has an analytical mind. Especially when you are sitting on a mountain, drinking wine, and touring a beautiful vineyard! Next summer, I am going to be interning at Koch Industries up in Wichita. It is only over the summer, however, I hope that it will give me experience I can use in the future, as well as help me to discover exactly what kind of a job I want when I graduate. One thing people like to know about me is my travel exp...

Week 11 Story: The Attack on the Great Elk

The Attack on the Great Elk Jona reached the last of the trees and stopped just before he stepped out in the open. Out on the plain the Great Elk lay sleeping. It was a towering beast, capable of leveling mountains and flattening villages in one stride. Not only that, it was a killer. Hundreds of Jona's people had been taken by the beast. It didn't eat them, no, it was an herbivore. This thing killed for sport but that was over now. Years ago, Jona's mother had prayed to the Spirits for an end to the terrible beast. The Spirits had answered by giving her Jona. His entire life he had prepared for this and now, finally, his training had come to an end. His mother had finished making his powerful bow and his strong arrows. He had taken them up and trekked to the land where the Great Elk dwelt. Unfortunately, with the large plain between himself and the beast, there was no way to get close enough to kill it. The Elk was said to have impenetrable hide. Besides that, it had...
