Reading Notes: King Arthur, Part B

This is my second reading note for the King Authur by Andrew Lang unit:

Sir Galahad and the White Knight
Sir Galahad meets a few other knights that are seeking a shield that is said to one be able to be wielded by the best of the knights. They find it and one takes it but asks Galahad to wait and see what happens to him. He is struck down by a White Knight who sends the shield back to Galahad, saying he is the only one who can wield it.

Sir Lancelot's Vision
Sir Lancelot finds a chapel but is unable to enter it because he is not worthy. He falls asleep and another knight arrives and sees the Graal. However, Sir Lancelot is not able to wake up. The knight takes Lancelot's sword and Lancelot vows to be better.

The Adventure of Sir Percivale
Sir Percivale has no horse, so a woman gives him one but when he does the sign of the cross it runs off and he realizes it is a demon. He goes on foot until he comes across a serpent killing a young lion. Percivale defeats the serpent and a larger lion sleeps beside him in gratitude.

The adventures continue with Sir Lancelot realizing how sinful he is when he sides with earthly knights and is defeated by heavenly knights. Sir Gawaine meanwhile, is told that he will not find the Graal. Several knights are told they aren't worthy and are sent back. However, Sir Bors is told to wear a red cloak and eat only bread until he finds the Graal. He is tempted but does what he is told. He, Galahad, and Percivale are on a ship together with Percivale's sister. A sword only wielded by the best of the knights is given to Galahad and they go on adventures together.

Galahad meets up with his father Lancelot and while they are together, Lancelot vows to be more virtuous, however, he falls back into his sinful ways later. Finally, Galahad, Percivale, and Bors find the Graal. They go to an island where Galahad is made king until he asks to die and his taken to heaven. Bors dies later and Percivale returns to Camelot to tell of his adventures.

Later, King Arthur is killed by Mordrid and is taken away on a barge after his sword is thrown back to the Lady of the Lake. Then Lancelot dies.

Week 2 Story: Mary and the Tiger

Mary and the Tiger It was market day and Mary's two sisters wanted their usual gifts. They demanded their mother go and buy them all the things they wanted, however, Mary knew that her mother was still sick. She worried that her mother wouldn't be able to withstand the long trip to the market, let alone carry the many items all the way back on her own. "Please mother," she begged, "let me come with you or better yet, stay here and rest and I will go alone." Her mother protested but as she struggled to get out of bed she fell back coughing. "Go my child and be safe." Mary left quickly and as she left one of her sister's called out, "and remember, don't come back without the roses, I want three of them!" Mary hurried to the market and spent all days searching for everything on the long list her sisters had given her. When the last of the purchases was complete, she began the journey back, however, it was dark and foggy and...

Week 14 Story: Jason and the Giant's Gold

Jason and the Giant's Gold Jason had always been a poor peasant, unknown by most. He had a job as a shepherd for the Lord of the lands and it provided for himself, his mothers, and his sisters and he was grateful for it. However, he was with the sheep night and day and was unable to do little else. If he didn't have this job, his family would have starved when his father died some years back and so Jason worked hard, both to support his family and from the gratitude he felt toward the Lord for trusting him with his flocks. However, some days back, he had left the sheep, for a little while, when he had come across a giant. He thought that would be the end of him and he briefly wondered who would take care of his family when he died but the giant hadn't killed him. It had needed his help and as a reward, it had taken him to a giant celebration. It had given him a belt of invisibility so he would be safe from the other giants and in this way, Jason had been able to witness...
